Jessika the Tank

Venting about vent.

Well not really venting I guess, but I have an issue with it. I just cannot shut up when we raid. This may be justified somewhat by the fact of being the raid leader and main tank, but I do realize that I go overboard sometimes. One of the Pillars of a Great Tank is

Before you say something be sure that whatever you say is better than silence.

I am horrible about this. I am a fairly introverted person, although not pathologically so. But something I have noticed about myself is that when I am talking about something that interests me and/or I am with friends I open-up quite a bit, sometimes too much. I am lucky that the raid is as patient with me as they are (or maybe they just mute me until we get to a boss).

  1. haha don’t worry about it, I’m the same way. The important thing is that you can focus when it comes to a boss.

And once again… how do I get a picture!?

  2. @Veneretio: Oh sorry. I see you asked about that before. I’m not sure if you mean a picture for yourself when you post comments or a picture of me. I am not sure how to get yourself a picture when posting comments on a WordPress blog. As for a picture of me, I will try to get some good screen shots to put up. I’m very pleased with my look now that I have some drops from Karazhan and a new cloak.

  3. Vene, if you want a picture in comments, register and log in WordPress.com (and register a profile picture) before posting comments.

  4. Poor Jess. Basically she is damned if she does, and damned if she doesn’t. Meaning we get on her if she says too much before or during a fight… and we get on her if she says too little. Before fights, especially new fights, its sorta like Jess is a poor 3rd grade school teacher trying to get a group of crazy rowdy school kids to behave and listen. Jess is just going all talky talky while Adamas is trying to carve his initials into my back, D is jumping off balconies, and others are dancing or playing with their pets.

The funniest though was after a Moroes fight when Nio commented how Jess called out to Nio to now to dps on Moroes after his trap target was down and Moroes was the last one standing. Nio was like, uh, Moroes is the last one… who else would I dps? But thanks for the tip Jess.

We love our tank and raid leader… its just that we can’t pass up giving her a hard time. :)

  5. I actually went through a phase a while back where I actually recorded a few runs from vent (I caught quite a few hilarious moments as well). I was listening to them for nostalgia’s sake a few days ago and I do the same thing. Then again I’m not the only one. We all have our own inside jokes and stories we talk about during raids and sometimes filling that void during trash is nice even if it’s completely irrelevant.

My guild is nice and laid back, and one of our motto’s is “I’d rather have fun and wipe horribly, than be bored and get loot.”

And if you’re worried about overexplaning fights just wait until you start doing Netherspite. :P I could send you my 15 minute rundown of the fight.

  6. @Blackavar: We are like that too. We used to have a motto that we are not having fun if we are not dying. Of course that was before Karazhan. My motto now is that if someone dies or we wipe, ideally will happen in an amusing way. We’ve had several instances of rogues and druids forgetting to stealth and folks falling to their death in the library section of Karazhan.

Ah yes, Netherspite. We haven’t tried him yet. But I’ve studied the encounter and decided that this time I am going to tell the raid to do their homework.

  7. Ok, this post has drawn me out of “lurkerdom” I am so with you on this. I figure if they complain too much it’s the price they pay for running with a girl for a tank. =P

Actually last night I was tanking heroic botanica and someone complained that they couldn’t get a word in edgewise so I rebelled by turning on my mp3 player (they couldn’t hear it but it made it difficult for me to talk) and typing out the rest of the run. /rw ftw.

Our GM doesn’t like vent and refuses to talk except on rare occurences usually involving very late night difficult heroics. Last week I was heading into a heroic and he said “sec, vent” and I said, wow RM I didn’t even have to ask and he replied with “I know how much you like vent Dez” rofl.
