I’m feeling that the time may come soon to put the ultimate chant of chants on me axe. Right now I have a rather unexciting +7 damage on my axe and new threat mace. I think many folks would wait for a better weapon but we’re not progressing very fast right now and I have some extra gold. Unfortunately I don’t think the mongoose “effect” will be visible on Grom’tor’s Charge as it has it its own built-in glow. I’m not really that big on weapon glows, but having a visible endgame enchant is a nice signal to others that you are serious about tanking (like when I whip out my gyro-balanced khorium destroyer). It’s not just how you look but also the message you send to other players by your appearance.
Nature Documentary Narrator: “Today we are tracking the elusive female Night Elf Protection Warrior, a very rare specimen. The one we are watching today, which researchers have named “Jessika,” has only recently reached maturity as we can tell by her equipment — a mixture of rare and epic armor and weapons. And oh look! That distinct greenish white flashing on her main-hand weapon is the distinct sign of a mongoose enchantment. It’s a clear sign that she is in defensive stance and is ready to tank. And just in time too! A human rogue has noticed the enchantment is slowly approaching in an attempt to invite Jess into a PUG. This is a rarely witnessed event in nature. Attempts to PUG “nelf” tanks in captivity have been largely unsuccessful. He will need to be careful though, because even when in her own element she will be reluctant to group outside her guild.”
You might want to wait until you get The Sun Eater or King’s Defender, since Mongoose is a pretty expensive enchant. The Sun Eater can be a bit frustrating to farm for some people (i got it on my 3rd run, but some people farm for it for weeks), but it’s worth it, since Mechanar is one of the easier heroics, and you can get 4 badges from there.
I agree. I kept my old +7 damage enchant on my axe during several months, and waited for Sun Eater for mongoose (and I was lucky to loot the sword on my first heroic run last month).
Yeah I may wait. The +7 on Grom’tor’s Charge seems fairly adequate right now. It’s not very impressive but I like the reliability.
So here’s a question. We’re reasonably well-geared at this stage in the sense that we’ve followed the established recommendations for gear to have before entering Karazhan. This is a mixture of rare Outland quest rewards and crafted rare and epic items. We would like to try some heroics pretty soon. Which heroics are easiest for our gear and experience level? Anglachel mentioned Mechanar. Any others?
I find Mechanar, Botanica and Arcatraz to be fairly easy, and they all give a lot of badges. Slave Pens and Underbog are also pretty easy. Shadow Labs and Shattered Halls are horrible, at least for me…
Mana Tombs is also a god run.
I haven’t tried all of them yet, but Mechanar and Botanica are quite easy (Botanica is rather long), Slave Pens and Underbog too. I don’t have tested the others.
Try to go to Mechanar each time you get the daily quest for it, skip the second boss and hope you’ll loot Sun Eater
Lol
I loved the Nature Documentary Narrator!!!
I’d start with Underbog and Slave pens, you can get a nice trinket(arguassian compass +36 stamina and on-use partial absorbs) and a nice belt(blue, but good).
Steamvaults is not so bad except for Hydermancer Sepethria, who is just rediculously hard. Expect to wipe 6+ times doing her.
Beware that Arcatraz is straightforward to tank, but healer intensive. The infernals that drop Meteors now have a melee fire aura. I’ve had sucess with dividing the group into 2 clumps that can each survive a meteor.
Botanica is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. 5 badges, 7 if it’s the daily. Don’t stand in the fire for Thorngrin the Tender.
Mechanar: not quite as easy as everyone says. You’ll certainly want to bring a warlock and/or mage for CC. No more than 1 melee dps if you plan to do Capacitus. You can go down the left side and pull the right-side gatewatcher without getting capacitus, just time it carefully.
Old Hillsbrad is a little tough depending on your group. Thrall has an inordinate amount of HP and can be used to soak attacks during a pull. The patrols repsawn every 15 minutes so there’s a lot of re-clearing until the firebombs go off.
Blood Furnace is actually pretty easy, bring at least one humanoid CC and/or warlock for banish.
Ramparts is quick, the 2nd boss means bring no more than 1 melee dps and sick your melee on the dog adds(which spawn continously).
Wait to do shattered halls until you’ve got mostly epics. Bring 3 CC if at all possible. Learn which side pulls you can skip, and you can eak 5 badges out of the place if done in time. Kargath tends to eat clothies and rogues with less than 9-10k hp. The rep from heroic Citadel will quickly boost you towards Honor’s Call.
Slabs is rough on heroic. The room before the 1st boss has 4-pulls instead of 3. Vorpil banishes a person at random(ncluding the tank) and they don’t get teleported and lose aggro. Only a priest can dispell the banish with Mass Dispell. Murmur is still at 40% but is more complicated and will require some wipes for your team to figure him out.
Auchinai Crypts is just as evil on Heroic – stuff pops out of nowhere, you have to get your whole team to run around during the 1st boss whlie you bleed to death. Again, melee is a hindrence here.
Sethekk halls is better on heroic if you can get a druid to summon the optional boss. Bring a diverse group since you can use CC from druids, rogues, and priests in addition to your usual mages and hunters. During the 1st boss kill the adds ASAP. Last boss is very similar to non-heroic.
Mana-tombs is good Consortium rep on Heroic. Bring shadow resist gear for Pandemonius. 2nd boss is a spank-n-tank face away(he’s got a cleave). Yor is a free badge and epic ring if someone has the key. Nexus-Prince Schaffar is…very diffuclt without a warlock. Send an Eye of Kilrogg into his adds and they’ll despawn for about 10 seconds, giving you the edge you need to win.
I haven’t done black morass yet, so no tips
